Stephen is a Founding Partner of Pulsar Energy Capital LLP specialising in principal investing in the energy sector (conventional and renewable energy) and also acting as a senior advisor and Chief Investment Officer for various emerging market generalist private equity investment funds and for a renewable energy company. Prior to establishing Pulsar, Stephen was a Founding Partner of Actis Capital LLP gaining a broad exposure to Actis’ emerging markets private equity investment business as a member of the Investment Committees of Actis’ various global funds principally reviewing and advising on all investment decisions with a geographical focus on Africa, China, Asia, Latin America and a sectoral focus on the power sector.
Stephen joined Actis in 1994, when the company was still part of CDC Group plc, and spent nine years in Latin America as an investor; originating, negotiating and managing private equity and risk capital deals. During that period Stephen was also responsible for helping to develop CDC’s business across Latin America initially based in Central America before moving on to set up CDC’s operations in Peru and then Mexico. Stephen has originated, completed and exited a number of successful private equity deals in the power and other sectors including helping to drive the creation and evolution of Globeleq, an emerging markets power company. Prior to joining CDC, Stephen worked in senior financial operational positions within the construction, property development and service sectors.
Stephen is a Chartered Management Accountant and has an MBA (with a specialist focus on International Business) from Strathclyde Graduate Business School.
